St John’s House Museum is indeed a historic house located in Warwick, a house that has had a 900 year old history.

In its 900 years St John’s House has had a very interesting and varied history mainly associated with health and education.

In the 12th century, during the reign of Henry II, the land on which St John’s House stands was given to the establishment of the Hospital of St. John the Baptist.  The hospital was established to help the poor and sick local people; and to provide casual overnight boarding and food to impoverished travellers such as pilgrims.

In 1610 the site of St John’s House comprised of four standing buildings, the largest of the three buildings has crosses at the roof’s apex, suggesting it was the sites chapel.  At the time of the hospital there was also a cemetery, in which remains of bodies have been dug up during refurbishment and remodelling of the house.

The museum today provides information about the history of the site, plus a full sized Victorian classroom, as it would have appeared during the educational period of St. John’s House.

There have been many reports of paranormal activity and ghostly sightings reported by staff and visitors alike. The sounds of phantom footsteps have been heard in empty room, witnessed by baffled lookers. Dramatic drops in temperature are a common occurrence, and even a figure has been seen looking out of one of the windows.  Like many locations that have had a history associated with hospital are usually a hotspot of paranormal activity.
